Silicone lubes have become more and more popular as the years have moved forward with quality and understanding.
First off though, Silicone lubricants are as a 'general' rule not compatible with 'most' adult toys.
So unless you don't care about the toy- don't use Silicone.
On to the good reasons:
Silicone most often stays slick longer than water
no water, no water to evaporate-
hence,
it can stay slick longer.

Silicone is- not to be sounding too graphic, but- great for filling in gaps/ pot holes in our skin created during insertions vaginally and/or anally which is common. Little tears in our skin are filled by the silicone lube for a bit of a smoother ride if you or your partner is not allergic to silicone. To find out if you are allergic, take a small dab on your finger and put small bit either on the inside crook of your arm or at the base of your wrist and within a few minutes, if you are allergic, will feel itchy or irritated- meaning- you are allergic to Silicone.
